St. Patrick's Preparations

This year I have decided to embrace some of the international celebrations. For instance, on Valentines Day we did some little family activities. I have never thought to include children in these celebrations, but reading the blogs of many US Mummys Mommys, it made me contemplate, Why not? I suppose I may have once resisted it with the Australian label that it’s all commercialism, but really, you can make it as commercial as you please. The conclusion is that I don’t have to spend lots of money, but even if I do, I’m creating some great family memories. It is one of my Mummy ambitions to create a rich box full of memories for my kids.

St. Patrick’s day, of all the days to celebrate is certainly very worthy. St. Patrick himself was certainly one of the fathers of our faith, and his legacy of Christian living is very worthy of celebration.

So at our house, the excitement is mounting for Saint Patrick’s Day – or the green day. We have decided to have a St. Patrick day party. (I think J Boy has just about got used to the idea that it’s not a birthday party.) We have invited some friends, cousins and neighbours around for a little afternoon tea and some games. J Boy came up with the idea of creating green slime, and has been super excited about it ever since, so I will soon be having my slime making debut.

Another super exciting moment was shopping for green things at the cheap store. J Boy was on the hunt for green! He would have gladly brought home green baskets, mats, and all kinds of green junk gems. Here’s his favourite purchase!

Stunning, huh?

Our craft activities have are all now green based. J Boy had a great time painting cardboard boxes green and is now in the process of cutting them into shamrocks.

If you are also feeling enthused to participate in a bit of St. Patrick fun, there is a wealth of websites devoted children’s activities.

Tip Junkie is a great place to start. She can point you to many wonderful sites and ideas.

Another link you may wish to use is to colour in pictures of St. Patrick himself. Considering he is supposed to be the man of the moment, it’s awfully hard to find a piccy of him. Much easier to find pictures of shamrocks, rainbows and leprechauns. So check out here and here

DLTK also has some good children’s craft ideas.

Activity Village might also be worth checking out.

So do you have any St. Paddy’s day plans you’d like to share?

May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.

  1. Good on you Caitlin! So creative & thoughtful. As if you’re not busy enough! Slime is easy to make – so don’t be worried (are you using soap flakes?).

  2. Unrelated to your post…you don’t appear to have any contact info on your blog, or am I just missing it? (Entirely possible; I have been known to stare at something and still swear blind it’s not there.) Was going to send you a “how are you going?” email, but couldn’t. And then you commented on my blog, which reminded me again. So anyway… hi! 🙂

  3. My St Patrick day activity. Getting the gardener to plant some sweet peas – my Grandma always said to plant them a few days before St Patricks day – it will be the second year running – quite a feat as I’m no gardener.
